High-Voltage Instrument Transformers - The "Precision Meters" of Power Systems

Measuring high voltage and current directly in power transmission lines is extremely dangerous. This is where high-voltage instrument transformers come into play. They function like "transformers," stepping down high voltage and current to safe levels for meters and protective devices.

These transformers are mainly divided into two types: current transformers (CTs) and voltage transformers (VTs or PTs). For example, in substations, CTs can reduce thousands of amperes to standardized 5A or 1A signals, making it easier for meters to measure or for protection systems to analyze.

With the advancement of smart grids, electronic instrument transformers—known for their compact size, high accuracy, and strong anti-interference capabilities—are gradually replacing traditional electromagnetic transformers.
